Professional Attributes

Kiplagat is a Registered Geologist (R.Geol) with the Geologists’ Registration Board of Kenya; A professional member  (PGSK)of the Geological Society of Kenya (GSK); And a member of the global Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE). He is a holder of a BSc (Geology) from the University of Nairobi (UoN), MSc (Petroleum Geoengineering) from the University of Miskolc (UoM), Hungary, and a continuing (Sec. IV) student of KASNEB undertaking a Governance, Management, Administration and Leadership course – Advanced level. He has been the Assistant Secretary to the GSK Governing Council since 2019, now serving his second two year-term.
Experience & Activities
Kiplagat has professional experience of eight (8) years in geothermal science (geothermics) and development. He has worked in various upstream stages of the industry including exploration, wellsite operations (writing prognosis reports, sampling and processing of drill cuttings, logging of more than 8 wells in Menengai, coring and core handling), writing inception reports and and geological field mapping in Menengai, Suswa and Baringo-Silali geothermal fields. He also has experience in petroleum exploration of Tullow Oil’s Turkana fields in Kenya in the area of Seismic field environmental monitoring.
Professional specialties – geothermics, petroleum geology/ engineering, hydrogeology, petrophysics, and geotechnics.
Interests and passions – Kiplagat is passionate about Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Geosciences. He regards Data Science and Artificial Intelligence as the new science & technology frontier and the future global enterprise.
