Mr. Chrysanthus Gicheruh

Experience & Activities

Mr Gicheruh was elected as the chair of GSK in March 2019. In 2021, he was re-elected as chair and President of GSK for a second 2-year term. He has previously served GSK in various capacities: – as a member of the GSK Executive Committee, and in the Professional Committee since 2009. He served as Chair of the Geology Bill Sub-committee between 2015 and 2020 and is a fellow of GSK.

Mr. Gicheruh is a Geologist, a graduate of University of Nairobi (BSc and MSc), with thirty years of experience. He is specialized in the use of groundwater and water harvesting technologies for the development of urban and rural water supplies. He is experienced in all aspects of hydrogeology, geophysical exploration for groundwater, engineering geology and dam site investigations, geological field mapping, water resources assessment studies, borehole site and well field investigations, hydrogeological mapping, remote sensing data, satellite imagery and environmental impact analysis of geo-hazards; borehole drilling, well design, test pumping, and hydrogeochemical investigations; geophysical and geological logging, computer interpretation and modelling techniques. He has sited thousands of wells and boreholes for rural and urban water supply using geophysical methods:- resistivity, seismics and electro magnetics in arid and semi-arid areas. He has been involved in water supply programme planning, designing and implementation, in particular water resources assessments and project identification, supervision, quality control and pre- and post-construction impact assessments for various technology options: borehole drilling, shallow hand-dug wells equipped with hand pumps, water pans, spring protection, sub-surface and sand dams, small earth dams and ground tanks. He has worked in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, Southern Sudan, Zambia, Congo, Republic of Chad and Botswana.

He has executed advisory and consultancy contracts for numerous bilateral and multi-lateral organizations and governments including:- GoK, GoT, GoSS; World Bank, IGAD, IFC, UNICEF, UNDP, UNHabitat, Care International, Diakonie Sweden, Norwegian Church Aid, JICA, Norwegian Peoples Aid, NRC, DRC, ICRC, KRCS, World Vision, Catholic Relief  Services, SANA International, Netherland Embassy, Danish Embassy, Danida, County Governments in Kenya, WRA, Church Organizations:- Diocese of Elobeid, Diocese of Marsabit and Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, GTZ, CWSB, NWSB, AWSB, ADRA, SCF (UK), AAH, ACF, RDWSSP, UN-IFAD, KenGen, Finnish RC (MFA funds), UNHCR, Caritas, Samaritan Purse International (SP), PAH Somalia, PAH South Sudan, NIPPON KOEI CO.
