Experience & Activities

I am a Quaternary Geologist based at The Technical University of Kenya. I am passionate about the intersection of science and policy. My research interest centers on understanding the responses of ecosystems to past and present climate and environmental changes. With over 15 years of experience, I specialize in studying the interactions between natural systems, including water, climate, and environment, and human activities.

My research focuses on using sedimentary records and biogeochemical analyses to reconstruct past environments and understand how they have changed over time. Specifically, I investigate the impacts of climate change and land-use change on ecosystems and landscapes. I emphasize the importance of using scientific data to inform policy decisions related to environmental management and conservation.

Through my research, I strive to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and policy development. By providing evidence-based recommendations, I hope to contribute to the development of policies that promote the sustainable use and management of our natural resources. Overall, I am committed to advancing our understanding of the impacts of human activities on the environment and using this knowledge to guide policy decisions that support environmental conservation and protection.

Currently, I serve at various capacities in quaternary research associations such as: Steering Committee Member PAGES (Past Global Environmental Changes; Future Earth Core project): Human Traces Working Group and the PAGES – ECN. I am affiliated to the Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation at the University of Nairobi and the Geology Section at the National Museums of Kenya. I am a members of Africa Quaternary Association (AfQUA), East Africa Quaternary Association (EAQUA), International Quaternary Association (INQUA) commissions on Stratigraphy and Chronology (SACCOM) and Paleoclimates (PALCOM).

I have served GSK at various capacities in the sub-committees (Education, Programmes and Publications) and was elected to the council in 2021. I hope to champion skills of geologists and support them in creating visible impacts through their careers.
