30th Colloquium of African Geology (CAG30) : Uniting Geoscientists for Sustainable Development in Africa

The Colloquium of African Geology (CAG) is a prestigious biennial gathering of earth scientists from around the globe, organized under the Geological Society of Africa. For decades, it has served as a critical platform where researchers and professionals come together to present their findings on African geology, sharing insights with an international forum of peers. CAG stands out as an exceptional opportunity for geoscientists to develop collaborative projects that bridge academia, industry, and society, fostering impactful connections and forward-thinking projects

The 29th Colloquium of African Geology (CAG29), held in Namibia, celebrated the vast contributions of African geological research. At this event, it was officially announced that Kenya would host the 30th edition of CAG during the last week of September 2025. This milestone is especially significant as it marks both the 60th anniversary of the Colloquium and its 30th edition, a testament to its legacy and influence within the global geoscience community.

From its inception at Leeds University in the United Kingdom, CAG has championed scientific advancements such as the revolutionary concept of the Pan African Orogeny. Over the years, the event has evolved into what many now refer to as the “Olympics of African Geology,” attracting top minds from around the world. The theme for the 30th Colloquium will be “Unveiling Africa’s Geological Resources: Forging a Path for Sustainable Development,” reflecting a commitment to sustainable approaches that maximize Africa’s geological wealth for societal benefit.

This landmark event is set to bring together a diverse audience, including senior and early-career geoscientists from academia, government representatives, associations, leaders in mineral exploration and mining, and advocates from civil society. Political figures and media representatives are also expected, underscoring the significance of the event in influencing policy and raising public awareness of Africa’s geological heritage and potential.

As the CAG looks to the future, CAG30 will serve as an incubator for groundbreaking research and collaborative projects that pave the way for Africa’s sustainable development. Mark your calendar and join us in Kenya as we celebrate 60 years of geoscience excellence and set the stage for the next chapter of geological exploration and discovery on the continent.
